Hello 2008

Location : Reading, England.

Ok, so I've gone and done it again....left you guys in a lurch with no upates. Apologies...yet again, but I seem to be doing pretty well in my job and that takes up quite a lot of time. I've become one of those people I tried so hard not to become - someone who looks forward to the weekend. So yeah, life has finally caught up with me because I constantly feel wrapped up in work, coming home tired everyday, constantly wondering where time has gone.

So, how was Christmas? Happy New Year and all that stuff to you guys. Towards the end of last year, I had about a week's worth of annual leave to take with no where to go and that is exactly what happened - I didn't go anywhere. What a waste! I wanted to go to the Canary islands(Spain) for a surf but I couldn't afford it in the end because of that car repair bill, plus none of my other surfing mates could make it with Christmas round the corner and all. This year, I'm going to plan it way in advance...drawing up plans for the rest of the year to ensure the holidays are well spent.

The first bang is coming...I'm going surfing in Sri Lanka soon! If you remember, it was way back in December 2004 when I first wanted to surf Sri Lanka which is the time when the tsunami hit the island. You could say this is a second chance but this time, it may not be a tsunami that hits the island but a war. Oh why are all the world's tropical surfspots in such hotspots? Bombs in Bali, tsunamis, civil war....sigh. I've had to think a lot lately....and I'm feeling pretty jaded. I would give anything to catch just one wave now.

Next is perhaps a trip to visit friends in Europe in March and May including a possible trip to Bali but that's all just thoughts flying around in my head at the moment. I reckon I'll hear the calling when I'm sitting on my board in the Indian ocean with nothing but a pair of boardshorts on. Perhaps a bullet proof vest too.

In fact, this trip to Sri Lanka wasn't really planned - initially, I wanted to head further west, to Costa Rica and surf Witches' Rock, featured in the cult surfing movie, Endless Summer 2. It wasn't meant to be when I found out that most flights to Costa Rica depart from American soil...and even though you may just be transitting in USA, you have to apply for a friggin' American visa. No fucking way. Pay money, attend an interview, get humiliated and pinned to the ground by US immigration...maybe even buttfucked, all that shit just to breathe American air for a couple of hours? Too bad, Costa Rica will just have to wait for me.

Other updates include the fact that I've got a new ride, a 7'2" minimal surfboard shaped by J-Bay of South Africa. And I'm currently on the lookout for a quad retro fish because I've heard so much about how great it rides.

I'm constantly wondering how much longer will it take for me to be able to find a place in this world where I can surf everyday and still work in technology. I'll get there for sure, but how much longer? I'm probably saying this because of the current winter but the UK is draining me of my soul. Another 3 or 4 more months and it would be warm enough to surf again - looking forward to that! I've also heard that the swell in Malaysia isn't hitting hard so I'm not missing out on much either.

Oh, one more thing :- I have been waiting for more than 2 years for a 12" Apple Powerbook G5 that never came. Apple has just released a 13" laptop(similiar to 12") called the Macbook Air but what a disappointment it is. I was prepared to buy it no matter the cost due to having waited so long for it. It looks super orgasmic but also super fragile. It makes me wonder if the Macbook Air would break if I knock into someone with my laptop bag strapped around me. The laptop is shipped with a lousy processor, lousy hard disk for the lower spec unit and most ridiculously(for me), without an in-built drive at all(external superdrive is offered as an extra). How am I going to watch movies without a DVDROM? Picture going out with a super hot lookin' wet dream...but she is unable to spin, read, write or give you the boot. Pretty boring relationship. Plus, you'd have to carry HER luggage(external superdrive) around! Oh man....looks like after all that waiting, I am probably going to buy a Macbook instead. Still the best spec, sturdiest and best value Apple laptop in the current range.

Finally, this will be the last year that I will blog. I'm not exactly sure when this blog will be taken offline yet. I've been contemplating this for a long time and I'm not exactly sure how it will be done either. But yeah, I will let you know. Perhaps when my current webhosting year ends. After that, we can still keep in touch through emails and Skype...but NO FACEBOOK please. =)

And so it is. Stay tuned, as I post entries from Sri Lanka...

No more littlenomad?
Shame, it's always good to read the rants and raves which grace these pages. Keep it up and one day you'll realise that you can publish the whole lot in a book, and surf around the world on the royalties...

Merry new year to you, still waiting for a visit from you...

If you do close the blog, I suggest u just migrate to Myspace, bro. Most of the MY & SG surfers are there anyway. The spam & virus is now under control & it doesnt have all the EXTREMELY IRRITATING applications like Facebook has. I enjoy blogging there coz it's maintenance & fuss free.

Easter may work.
We're staying in a Yurt - Mongolian wool house - in Cornwall for a week at Easter, but have a couple of other weeks where you could stop by.
Planning to rent a V Dub van in the summer for a week in Cornwall; check out camper-vanning - I'd be keen to buy one someday.
